How to Write a Postdated Check
A postdated check has a future date on it. People commonly use them for rent, payment plans or deposits when a payment is intended for a later date.
Write a future date, then fill in the rest
- Write the intended future date on the date line.
- Fill in the payee, amount in numbers and words, memo and signature as normal.
Example: next month's rent
If you write a rent check on October 13, 2026 for November's payment, put November 1, 2026 on the date line. The remaining fields are filled in just like any other check.
A bank may still cash a postdated check before its date. Tell the person you pay not to deposit it early, and check with your bank if timing matters.
Pick the date in Check Snapper
Choose a date for each check, including a future date. Supported dates run from 2000 through 2100. With Bulk Checks on paid plans, you can create a whole series in one run — for example, 12 monthly checks with their own future dates.
